Synopsis: Harvey Cheyne (Freddie Bartholomew) is a capricious and spoiled rich kid who is taking a cruise with his father. Unexpectedly, he falls over the side of the yacht and is rescued by a fishing boat commanded by an intrepid captain (Lionel Barrymore). The fishing boat has to finish the long fishing campaign before taking the boy to the mainland. Harvey, reluctantly at first, will manage to adapt to the harsh life on the high seas thanks to his intimate relationship with Manuel (Spencer Tracy), a good-natured Portuguese sailor who will exert a beneficial influence on the boy.
Review: A spoiled rich boy falls into the sea from the luxurious cruise ship where he was traveling, being picked up by a fishing boat.
In the new boat, full of tough sailors, the boy will have to work like everyone else. In time, in the company of the crew, especially a Portuguese sailor, the boy will discover the value of hard work and true friendship…
Based on the novel by Kipling, the mixture of seafaring adventures and tender drama achieved a wonderful and moving film that settled in the hearts of several generations. In memory, an insurmountable Spencer Tracy (pay attention to the exciting scene in which the boy says: “I want to be with you, Manuel”, two faces drenched in disarming sincerity).
