Synopsis: Just arrived in Argentina, small-time crooked gambler Johnny Farrell is saved from a gunman by sinister Ballin Mundson, who later makes Johnny his right-hand man. But their friendship based on mutual lack of scruples is strained when Mundson returns from a trip with a wife: the supremely desirable Gilda, whom Johnny once knew and learned to hate. The relationship of Johnny and Gilda, a battlefield of warring emotions, becomes even more bizarre after Mundson disappears…
Review: From the opening roll of the dice to the ending credits, I love this movie. A cinematic portrait of a love/hate relationship…which is love when pride gets in the way. Rita Hayworth is at her luminous best…”Who me?” as she tosses her hair back is a classic scene…as is the dance number with the low-cut dress with the gloves…well you just have to see it. Her clothes, in general, are amazing. Although Ballin’s cape is none too shabby either. It’s my favorite kind of movie in that love triumphs over hate, and good wins over evil, though along the way the characters are dragged through hell in very entertaining, cinematic ways.
