Review: This moving masterpiece is a beautiful hymn to Africa, nature and the art of telling a story touching the most basic springs of human feelings. Some accuse her of being “soft.” Soft? Vayan counting: adultery, illness, death, loneliness, marginalization, ruin, heartbreak …
Magically in the end there is only the charm of a memorable trip marked by two flights in a plane (in the first there were two, in the second only one). And there remains the memory of the best portrait of the dilemma between independence and commitment that has ever been seen on a movie screen. The script – based on a magnificent novel – the photography, the music, the performances – huge Streep, Redford and Brandauer – everything in “Out of Africa” has one adjective: memorable.
