On board, he meets Rose (Kate Winslet), a young woman from a good family who has come to nothing but she is going to contract a marriage of convenience with Cal (Billy Zane), a conceited millionaire who is only interested in the prestigious last name of his fiancee. Jack and Rose fall in love with her, but her fiancé and her mother put all kinds of obstacles on her relationship. Meanwhile, the gigantic and luxurious ocean liner is approaching a huge iceberg.
Review: The film of the nineties (at least in terms of its figures and records of number of Oscars, budget and box office collection) exceeded already very high expectations. We went to see special effects and we found a magnificent (and very well told) love story that moved and convinced … when the iceberg arrived. Then we suffered with the tragedy of the romantic couple (although obviously there was plenty of Billy Zane hitting shots) while an epic spectacle left us speechless and wet our pupils. The rest is history: the public made Leonardo Di Caprio a star and “Titanic” a money-raising machine, as well as a masterpiece of popular cinema.
